About the Project

The story

We are proud to have contributed to the transformation of HB Tower into a striking landmark through innovative architectural façade lighting. Located at the gateway to the world-renowned Yas Island, this newly developed commercial tower offers premium office space overlooking the Yas Marina Formula 1 Circuit and Yas Bay. The dynamic LED lighting installation enhances the building's distinctive geometry, creating a memorable nighttime identity that reinforces its presence within Abu Dhabi's iconic skyline.

Inspired by the clean geometry of a precisely cut gemstone, the façade is accentuated with more than 800 metres of OneEightyOne V-Series pixel-controlled contour lighting. Powered by nearly 50,000 individually addressable LED pixels and controlled by DiGidot Node U96 controllers with MADRIX software, the installation transforms the building into a dynamic architectural landmark after dark. The pixel-controlled façade lighting enables smooth gradients, flowing animations, and seamless colour transitions, adding a new dimension to architectural lighting while emphasizing the tower's sculpted form and creating a unique visual identity.

THE
PROCESS

Contour lighting

The tower’s striking geometry, inspired by the angular facets of a precisely cut gemstone, is enhanced at night with more than 800 meters of OneEightyOne V-Series contour lighting. These pixel-controlled linear fixtures are seamlessly integrated along the edges of the building, emphasizing its sharp, sculpted form.

Movement and shape

Unlike traditional contour lighting, which typically provides a uniform static line of light, pixel-controlled contour lighting brings an entirely new dimension. It allows for smooth gradients, subtle transitions, and dynamic effects that follow the geometry of the architecture. The result is a façade that comes to life - visually communicating the building’s identity and engaging its surroundings through movement and light.

The control system

The lighting is powered by 8 DiGidot Node U96 units, enabling control of nearly 50,000 individual pixels. Combined with Madrix software, this setup ensures precision control and creative flexibility for designers.

This project showcases the powerful synergy between advanced lighting technology and visionary architecture.
