About the Project
The story
The iconic Titanic Belfast museum recently underwent a major renovation, introducing a series of immersive exhibits that celebrate the story of the world-famous ship. As part of this transformation, OneEightyOne was commissioned by Fiction Factory and Opera Amsterdam to deliver the custom LED lighting solution for one of the exhibition's centrepieces—an approximately eight-metre-long scale model of the Titanic. The project combined precision engineering, intelligent lighting control, and architectural storytelling to create an engaging visitor experience.
To bring the model to life, OneEightyOne installed more than 300 metres of LED lighting, consisting of 150 metres of individually pixel-controlled RGB LED Strip driven by the DiGidot C4 control system, alongside 150 metres of high-quality COB LED Strip for smooth, continuous illumination. The combination of dynamic lighting effects and uniform accent lighting highlights the intricate details of the ship while creating depth and atmosphere. Through precise programming and synchronized lighting control, the installation transforms the scale model into an immersive visual experience, enhancing the museum exhibition and demonstrating how innovative architectural LED lighting can elevate storytelling within cultural and heritage spaces.
